The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4 Review – Beth Returns

The Walking Dead Season 5 awakens in episode 3 with Beth standing in a hospital unable to understand how she was received. Officer Dawn and the doctor walk into the room. After getting her bearings, she talks with officer stating she is unable to leave until she pays back her time for her being saved.

She is taken under the care of the doctor, but things seem sinister as it seems many people are being held against their will. Moreover, she is getting very sexual behavior by one of the male officers.  Beth just wants to leave and find Daryl but is stuck in the dystopia where everything seems to be fake and forceful. A prison within a hospital she goes about her business, but whatever she takes requires more time spent working it off. As part of her discipline, she is forced to work with the doctor doing things she rather not do such as cutting off arms of infected flee’rs and tending to the sick with prescriptions.

While it seems on the very faint that people have roles, it really is the wild west. Everyone is ready to make their own moves and no one really trusts anyone else. The doctor uses Beth to kill the only other doctor (doctor was suffering from something and Beth unknowingly gave him the wrong drug). The individuals that play this fake role use new underlings to do their dirty work for them. Beth sees right through what is going on. They hold onto this false notion that someone is coming for them and they must do their part.  She meets someone she can actually relate to, Noah.

Noah has been at the hospital for over a year. It seems that although he is a helpful and strong minded individual, he also is very sinister and is willing to use others to his advantage. Making a plan with Beth to get themselves out of the hospital, they devise a plan that requires getting a hidden key in Officer Dawns room. During this time, she gets caught by her sexual harassment officer friend. Beside her for some reason is a turned patient that ends up getting the best of the officer ripping at his flesh. From there the two make a dash for freedom as Beth is required to shoot her way through walkers. Noah, injured from the escape from the shaft of a service elevator saves himself as Beth lays there in the midst of all the walkers. Behind her the group of officers to save her.

While being brought back into the hospital, she turns and notices Carol on a cart being brought into ER. How does she get there if she was with Daryl and the group? I would like to say the group knows where she is and is coming to get her, but we saw them on that bus. But wait, there were a few people missing…. It seems someone has found the car with the cross on it. We are in for a surprise!
